Ahead of July 21st, 2018 primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Osun State, three frontier aspirants vying for the governorship ticket of the party have withdrawn from the race and unanimously declared their support for Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, a cutting edge gubernatorial aspirant of the party.

The aspirants, namely Sen. Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, a former senator of the federal republic of Nigeria, Engineer Ezekiel Olajide Adeniji, a former chairman of Federal Road Maintenance Agency and Sen. Kola Ademola Ogunwale (Jumokol) a former senator of the federal republic of Nigeria on Thursday announced their withdrawal and drummed support for Ogunbiyi.

Disclosing his stand, Akinlabi noted that "after series of consultations with elders, leadership and members of the PDP and widely too with the people of Osun State of all strata, it was generally agreed that the person who may best serve as candidate of the PDP is Dr. Akin Akanmu Ogunbiyi. He is a successful businessman and has run a decent and impressive campaign towards this PDP's impending primary election."

He added, "I have interacted with him on different occasions in recent time and I am impressed and convinced that he has the capacity and the political brinkmanship to offer the desired leadership for our dear Osun Sate at this moment."

Thereafter, Adeniji and Ogunwale on their own announced their resolutions, stressing that the ruling party has impoverished Osun and that all eyes were on the PDP to salvage the state. The aspirants collectively passed a vote of confidence on Ogunbiyi and pledged their support for the Ile-Ogbo born technocrat as the candidate of the party.

At a well attended meeting of the PDP,  bigwigs of the party and no fewer than 24 local government chairmen of the party endorsed  Ogunbiyi.

In her remarks, Chief Erelu Olusola  Obada noted that from her interactions with aspirants of the party, Ogunbiyi is the only outstanding contender who truly understands governance. "I did not plan to spend more than 20 minutes with him when we met before now. But I spent even more than 2 hours because he was so composed and really understood governance," the former deputy governor of the state remarked.

Buttressing Erelu's viewpoint, former Senator Ogunwale revealed that he withdrew from the race in full support for Ogunbiyi who he described as the divine candidate that could lead the party to victory in the September 22nd governorship election of the PDP.

The local government chairmen spoke through Hon. Jegede of Oriade local government and expressed confidence in Ogunbiyi's candidature.

Responding, Ogunbiyi acknowledged the party elders, stakeholders, delegates and supporters for their open support and expressed delight at the development, assuring that he would lead the party to victory in the general election.

Also in attendant at the meeting are Oluomo Oludaisi Aina, Dr. Olu Alabi, Dr. Muyiwa Oladimeji, Elder Funsho Ishola, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa, Hon Sanya Omirin and host of others.
