When Trinidad and Tobago came to Wasimi

Yesterday, the Honorary Consul Designate Lagos to the the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Col. (CNC) R. Vaughan, visited the Campus of The Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy, SOCA, in the little village of Wasimi Orile, Ogun State.

It was a first exploratory visit to the sports school.  A possible relationship between Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago through the promotion of Sports and Culture (Pan music, for a start) is being brewed.

It was a beautiful experience for everyone involved in the visit. Col. Vaughan was totally unprepared for the scope of what he saw, with pleasant surprises at every turn in terms of the superb serene environment, the humble but functional facilities for academics and sports, the outstanding products of the school's works, the underlining philosophy, the long term vision, the engaging social inclusion projects in the community, self-help food programs, and several small-scale infrastructural facilities development.

He also paid a special visit to the graveside of the late legendary African/American Track Legend, Lee Edward Evans who rests peacefully within the campus of the College where he worked with young student/athletes till he passed on almost 2 years ago.

Col. Vaughan's excitement at the prospects of an almost-immediate collaboration between Trinidad and Tobago and Nigeria, anchored to SOCA, was palpable. He was full of praise for the school's administration under Mr. Denis Owumi, and his dedicated staff.

The Honorary Consul's visit is the first step in what would be an exciting new journey into the realm of new and exciting possibilities for boys and girls of Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago in sports, education, music, film and culture.

Watch out!
