I weep for this country, called Nigeria- Nicholas Akobada

Nicholas Akobada a political scientist, business man and 2023 People's Democratic Party (PDP) Senatorial Candidate, Lagos East spoke to TUNDE ESO on his disagreement toward the conclusion of 25th February, 2023 elections in Lagos cum Nigeria

What are your takes on the just concluded February 25, 2023 election in Nigeria as a senatorial candidate in Lagos?

You know what, I weep for this country called Nigeria, not because I did not win at the just concluded election, but because I knew we are either going to collect our stolen mandate back or the elections will be cancelled.

I weep because the institution has succeeded in demoralising non-partisan  Nigerian that came out to vote for the first time after convincing and assuring them of the effectiveness of the BVAS machine, which should have made their vote count for the first time, but reverse is the case. The question is what are we going to tell them next?

Kindly illustrate why you said the election was rigged by All progressives congress.

It's obvious that 25th February, 2023 elections were rigged, the results recorded at the polling units by our agents is not the result declared at various collation centres. Elections were not even conducted at some units whereas results were declared, and different cases were witnessed at different places.

What are your vivid reasons for using BVAS to rig election in Lagos?

The BVAS machine was not used to rigged in Lagos or anywhere. INEC  counted the results manually and did not refer to the results that were supposed to have been transferred to the IREV portal as against INEC's initial plan, which was what gave Nigerians confidence and negate voters' apathy towards the election.

Can court reverse your winning to you with all your aforesaid reasons?

The court is the last hope of the masses, but in Nigeria, unless by the intervention of God, getting the right judgment is not an easy task. Our judicial system is corrupt and proliferated by the influence of the government of the day. Aside from that and with all the evidence we have at our disposal, victory at the court is assured.

What are the process you think should be put in place to eradicate rigging in Nigeria elections?

The process is already in place, the government of the day and the chairman of the institution just did not want it to work. If the BVAS worked as it is supposed to work, and all the results were uploaded at the polling units to the IREV portal as it was meant to, the issue of rigging might not arise.

Another way rigging can be curtailed is by using BVAS which will accredit voters, allow voting then count electronically to know the total number of votes.

I want to appeal to the government to allow the system to work. What is the point of spending so much money on BVAS and IREV when you know you will not allow them to be useful? And what is the point of raising people's hope for nothing?

Conclusively, I'm using this medium to thank everyone that came out and voted for Newdawn. Very soon we shall get back our stolen mandate by the power of Almighty God. Thank you and remain Blessed.
