Report: Ola Babatunde
The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has dragged the Department of the State Services (DSS) to the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja over failure to administer quality treatment on his deteriorating health and denial of access to his personal doctor.
The suit filed by Kanu's legal team led by Prof. Mike Ozekhome (SAN) was disclosed by Kanu's lawyer, Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, after their routine visit to the detained IPOB leader in the DSS custody on Monday.
Giving an update on their visit to Kanu, Ejiofor said the suit was for the court to compel the DSS to immediately allow Kanu access to his personal doctor, saying that the suit has been scheduled for hearing later this week.
Ejiofor said, "Onyendu was briefed on our suit for an order of mandamus to compel the DSS to immediately allow him access to his personal doctor, which action is scheduled for hearing this week, before the Federal High Court, Abuja.
"The deteriorating health condition of Onyendu, which has continued to worsen will form the fulcrum of the legal fireworks that will ensue when the matter comes up later this week, as our erudite Lead Counsel- Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN, is fully ready to deliver on point, as usual, as the situation demands in court."
Ejiofor also said that IPOB legal team have agreed to legal action against the ranking of IPOB as 10th terrorist group in the world by the Global Terrorism Index, but noted that steps and actions to be taken to challenge the ranking still remain private.
"I further briefed Onyendu on the recent misinformed and malicious ranking of IPOB in the Global Terrorism Index, and the actions that have already been taken so far in adequately addressing same.
"Further legal steps and actions, agreed upon in this regard, will remain private and confidential," he said. Sahara
