Afua Kyei is among 100 Reputable Africans

A young Ghanaian  woman Afua Kyei, is inspiring young girls on the African continent and the world over with her massive accomplishments.

40-year-old Kyei, was in the news recently after she was named among the 100 reputable Africans alongside the likes of Sir Sam Jonah, former President of Liberia, H.E Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and President of Malawi H.E Lazarus Chakwera (H.E) among other distinguished personalities.

Information on the Bank of England website and her LinkedIn profile reveals that she schooled at the prestigious Oxford University from 2000 to 2004 where she read Chemistry.

She started her career at Ernst & Young in 2004 where she worked for 3 years, before moving on to UBS Investment in 2007 in her capacity as an investment banker and worked there for a period 5 years.

Kyei, who is now a Chartered Accountant licensed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS), has over 17 years of experience in the finance sector.

She currently sits as the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director responsible for Finance, Strategy, Performance, and Tax at the Bank of England where she joined in June 2019.

In her new position, Afua oversees the financial governance of the Bank's balance sheet, which at its peak, grew to over £1 trillion during the Covid pandemic.

Afua is a Director of the Bank of England Asset Purchase Facility Fund, Alternative Liquidity Facility, and also the Covid Corporate Financing Facility, prior to the cessation of its activities, and helped operationalise the Energy Markets Financing Scheme.

She is a member of the Bank's Executive Board overseeing the upgrade of the UK's Real Time Gross Settlement System, Critical National Infrastructure, which processes over £720bn payments each day.

Afua seeks to pave the way for others through driving cultural changes within organisations. 

She is co-executive sponsor for Diversity and Inclusion and co-executive sponsor for the Bank's Climate Change disclosure.
