Ageism is the New Phenomena
By Datti Sani
Age gap or difference is a generational machinery used in human intergenerational transmission and preservation of social, economic development in almost all various aspects of our lives endeavors, except politics.
In nigeria and africa, the issue is at it intensive level of poor youth representation at the national, state and equally as well local governance.
Upon all this heads up, the point I'm trying to reach is ageism, our topic of discussion today.
Ageism I'm writing about is an ideology that I'm advocating about.
As a political ideology that people form and initiate a political movement base on their age groups, age difference and inter age collaborations.
Ageism can be intra-party and likewise inter-party phenomena, ageism can also be a positive tool of anti-party as we can not ignore the essential need for anti-party politics in nigeria. Anti-party is an indicator of political growth, transformation and development in a political settling, countries in europe, America and even Asia who are politically developed reach and pass through that phase.
This ideology initiated to backed a new term of government called YOUTHOCRACY originated by Tunde Eso, Youthocracy is a new system of government which is defined as government of the people, by the youth and for the people in 2013.
We will take both Ageism and youthocracy as an ideology and push it within the society, particularly the youth, because we need more youth participation in the affairs of societal and national politics.
Youth do the almost 80% of the work In the political arena, starting from social media to campaign and canvassing, youth does the work as electioneering officers, and youth does the most important work of voting. But the saddening reality is that youth only have a maximum of 10% out of 100% in governance and the representation.
To channel a chance for youth political actors in our societies, youth have to come as one irrespective of their political and social class, political parties, and regional background.
Ageism doesn't necessarily means that Youth should mount all the political seats from president to councilor, no, what ageism is advocating is that Youth should have room for negotiation with elders for political seats within their capacity, and as well have ability to make demands and political bargaining.
If we look at the nature of some electoral seats and even some political appointments, some are supposed to be mount by youth likewise some by elders if we truly mean good to our societies and nation at large. Youth hold the fire to represent (legislate) as the majority of the population are within that age range, while the honest and trust worthy between the elders execute.
If so is achieved we will have an inclusive smooth running administration that will not leave anyone behind.
But it's not as simply achievable as saying it, as it requires a lot of sacrifices, hard-work and patience, because youth need to press harder than the surface.
A lot of youth political participation advocacy organizations, Groups, and forums were initiated before 2023 Election, organizations like NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN, OFFICE OF THE CITIZEN, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, GOODWILL YOUTH MOVEMENT, FIX NIGERIA GROUP and many more but the result achieved is poor even though it was a plus.
With this i conclude in calling on youth in various aspects of leadership seats to exhale excellently and shown away from corruption as they are product of our movements, and anything they do or did will be use in our favor or against our movement advocation respectively, especially the ones that are opportune to be in elective political position, (in chambers) with tigers and bears.
