NERC Barred Electricity Distribution Companies from Billing Disconnected Customers
By Tunde Eso
The Ta'awunu Human Rights Initiative wishes to inform the General public and Electricity Distribution Customers Nation wide that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has barred all Electricity Distribution Company in Nigeria from billing any of their customers that have been already disconnected for the period of disconnection.
The NERC made this statement in a document which it has also forwarded to Electricity Distribution Company known as the "Customers Protection Regulations 2023 as amended" maintaining her stand that only customers reconnected should be billed.
We Strongly believe that the public will take notice of this development and henceforth should not make payment for any bill after they have been disconnected by any Electricity Distribution Company.
We equally urge all Electricity Distribution Company and Customers to maintain high standard of rule of law as law abiding citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
