Lagos NSCDC Personnel Evacuates Corpse, Mitigates Crashes, Rescues Road Accident Victims on Otedola Bridge

Following a distress call received, by the Disaster Management Unit, of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, concerning a road traffic accident, which occured, on Otedola Bridge, inward Berger, in Lagos state, at about 03:37hrs, on Saturday, 15th July, 2023, the Command's rescue team, swiftly, moved in to action, to mitigate the ugly situation and brought normalcy to the road.

The Command's rescue team, on arrival at the accident scene, discovered that a tanker fully loaded, with unknown quantity of diesel was suspected to have crushed a female pedestrian ( name unknown ), who was hawking cooked eggs to death and three (3) other  vehicles; Suzuki, Toyota  Camry and Avalon ( registration numbers withheld ).

Preliminary investigation conducted, by the team at the scene revealed that the said, tanker, had a mechanical fault, which eventually, led to such a disastrous occurrence, which claimed the life of the aforementioned and identified female hawker and crushed three other vehicles.

However, in a bid to swiftly, mitigate and manage the disastrous occurrence, the Command's rescue team assisted, in the cordoning of the scene, evacuation of the victim, rescue operation, traffic and crowd control, with other sister agencies, such as the FRSC, NPF, LASEMA, LASAMBUS and LFS , who also responded timely to the scene.

The State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, Commandant of Corps Usman Ishaq Alfadarai, fdc, mnim, mpa, fisn, fcss, seized this occurrence to reiterate the commitment, of the Corps to forestall and manage all forms of disaster and provide prompt assistance to other relevant disaster management agencies to  ensure public safety in the state.

The Lagos State Commandant of the Corps, further advised drivers to properly and regularly check their vehicles before embarking on any journey as well as abstain from using intoxicants while driving on the road, to avoid needless loss of lives and destruction of private and public property.
