Tinubu to Confirm Date of APC's NEC Meeting for Leadership Ratification

By Tunde Eso

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to confirm the date of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, as requested by the party's National Working Committee (NWC).

The upcoming NEC meeting is set to ratify the choices of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as national chairman and Senator Ajibola Basiru as national secretary.

In order to ensure a smooth transition and continuity in adhering to the pre-existing zoning formula for the party's leadership composition, the NWC, NEC, and governors have reached an agreement.

The Progressives Governors' Forum (PGF) met at Imo State Lodge, Abuja, where Ganduje and Basiru received endorsements to replace Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore, who recently resigned.

Ganduje and Basiru also engaged with other party leaders, particularly members of the National Caucus, and their decisions will be communicated to the NEC before the new chairman and secretary assume office, following the ratification.

While the APC's constitution stipulates that the national convention is responsible for electing new national officers, the NEC is empowered to perform the functions of the national convention in between conventions.

The National Caucus has already communicated its decision to the state chapters and parliamentary caucuses.

As per Article 13(ii) and Article 13.3 A (ii) of the APC constitution, the NEC serves as the principal executive body of the party and holds authority to summon or convene the national convention and prepare its agenda.

Moreover, the NEC can discharge all functions of the national convention between national conventions.
