GOVT. Restates Commitment To Cultural Revival

Ogun State Government has disclosed that it will not relent in promoting the Yoruba culture through cultural exchange programmes to further propagate its values for nation building.

The State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Rt. Hon. Muyiwa Oladipo who stated this while receiving Miss Omotoyosi Adetilewa, the Omidan Yoruba (the voice of Yoruba youths) and her team at his office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said he was glad to see young men and women who would sustain the Yoruba cultural heritage.

Oladipo applauded the ingenuity behind the Yoruba Youth Summit held in 2016, where young ladies across the Southwest States were groomed on good motherhood and home management, saying the summit had also brought about the selection of a beauty queen, known as 'Omidan Yoruba', the platform for sustaining traditional fashion.

He added that the Ogun State Government would continue to promote avenues where culture, history and tradition would be better appreciated, reiterating that the present administration would not relent at ensuring that youths in the State were exposed to the Yoruba traditions.

"We have partnered with outfits like 'Ewa Ede' in the past and some others on culture, out of our desire to re-awaken our culture through partnering cultural outfits, we had the Nigerian drums festival, now re-christened the African drums festival which had brought accolades to the Ogun State government. I am happy that young women like you are also at the fore front of re- awakening and sustaining our culture,'' he said.

The managing director of Omidan yoruba foundation mr Kingsley Opara, appreciated the State government for promoting and re-awakening the African culture, adding that the omidan yoruba miss Omotoyosi Adetilewa and her foundation will always work in conjunction with all yoruba States at promoting the Yoruba cultural heritage.
